Chile is more developed, offering sleek apartments in Santiago, cozy cabins in Patagonia, and Instagram-worthy boutique hotels in Valparaiso.
Chile boasts a more advanced tourism infrastructure, resulting in higher standards of cleanliness and amenities.
While more expensive than Bolivia, Chile offers a more refined experience. Fewer "salt-lickable" walls, though you never know!

It depends on priorities: adventure and authenticity versus sleek modernity. Both countries have unique appeals.
How should one approach finding accommodation? Book in advance or wing it?
I prefer to wing it, but booking ahead, especially in Bolivia during peak season, is advisable. Otherwise, you might find yourself sleeping in a salt mine.
(Laughing) Better safe than salty! In Chile, especially in popular areas like San Pedro de Atacama or Torres del Paine, advance booking is essential.
What about long-term rentals?
Apartments in Bolivian cities like Sucre or Cochabamba are surprisingly affordable, but expect "rustic" conditions.
"Rustic" often means bringing your own toolbox! In Chile, expect more modern rentals in Santiago or Valparaiso, but at a higher cost.
Chilean rentals require more paperwork and are more formal.
What resources are best for finding accommodation?
In Bolivia, local Facebook groups and word-of-mouth are excellent. Connect with the expat community.
For Chile, reputable websites like Booking.com and Airbnb, or local real estate agents, are recommended.
